Dr Christine Parkinson studied as a biologist and spent the first part of her career in medical research. In 1984, she moved to Birmingham’s inner city, to follow a call that God had placed on her life, to minister to the poor and socially excluded of the inner city and to fight for social justice.
In Birmingham, she worked as Urban Missioner to 12 inner city Baptist churches for six years and then, in 1993, began as community organiser to the Jericho Community Project, in Balsall Heath, an inner city suburb of Birmingham. This role enabled her to have direct involvement in the development of two of the projects described in this book. Dr Parkinson is also committed to following a contemplative prayer life.
