Biography:
Donald Barton, born in industrial Lancashire in 1927, was educated at Chepstow Secondary School, and after two and half years in the army, at Oxford. Drawn to Africa in his mid-teens, he entered the Colonial Administrative Service and served in Tanganyika from 1952-1961. Accompanied by his wife, both their children were born there. He later joined the British Council, where his concern for the less developed world was reflected in postings to Nigeria, Malaysia, and Afghanistan, mainly administering a wide range of educational aid and technical assistance. He lives with his wife in Hampshire
