Frank Ifield

Biography:

Frank Ifield began recording at age 15 and in four years had 44 records issued in Australia. Frank became the Number One Recording star in Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania before he was nineteen.
While still in his teens, Frank became a regular on the popular radio program Bonnington's Bunkhouse. He appeared on other radio shows as well, eventually touring with the Ted Quigg Show for many years.
Frank signed with EMI Australia in 1953 and released two successful singles including There's a Loveknot in My Lariat. Soon he was hosting his weekly television show Campfire Favourites. By 1959, he was appearing on all three of the Sydney TV channels. Signed by EMI Records on Columbia shortly after he came to London in 1959, Frank had his first British hit in 1960 with Lucky Devil. In 1962 he hit the top of the charts with I Remember You, followed soon afterwards by Lovesick Blues, The Wayward Wind, Nobody's Darling But Mine, Confessin', and Waltzing Matilda.

So popular was his recording of the beloved Australian ditty Waltzing Matilda it is now almost regarded as his signature tune. I Remember You stayed at the top of the British charts for over two months, and when released in the States it hit the Top Five on the pop charts.

FRANK IFIELD became the first artist to ever have three consecutive number one hits in Britain and also, to be awarded three gold discs in the space of a year!
