The author had a theological training, worked as a village missionary in South India, then, after a spell in a sanatorium recovering from TB, as a lecturer in an Indian theological college. After a year back in a Yorkshire church, he left the ministry and became a lecturer in a college of education.
Whilst there he wrote a school textbook about major religions and secular ideologies called Faiths of the World [1976]. He then spent ten years as a university lecturer in New Zealand, specialising in the history of Buddhism in all its ramifications. Out of this came his second book, Tales and Teachings of the Buddha. This was originally published by Allen and Unwin in 1979 but a revised edition was published on the Net in 2001 by Cybereditions.
He now enjoys doing some of the things he didn't get around to when he had to work for a living.
