...I dreamed of working in art and animation. Cartoons always captured my imagination and to this day I am still fascinated and in awe of the profound talent of artists, directors and technicians in bringing stunning creations to life through picture books, short animations and feature-length films.
Despite this desire, like most children around the world, I let this dream slip through my fingertips as choices in life took me a million miles away from where I wanted to be. I followed a career in the corporate maze and, although achieving reasonable success, I'm guilty of being led by my head, not my heart.
Throughout my life, I've never forgotten my childhood dream. I felt I was sitting on a time bomb of creativity that was just bursting to be unleashed. So back in 2005, as my heart finally began to win the conflict against logic, I sat down and started to sketch out a storyboard for a concept that had been in my mind for some time. Chicco was born out of this labour of love, and I decided to create a children's picture-book series to encourage our children not to give up on their dreams.
Having spent some considerable time and effort peddling manuscripts amongst mainstream publishers and literary agents without success, I took the decision to self-publish my work. As a novice, this was quite a scary leap for me. But thankfully the friendly folk at authorsonline.co.uk helped me during every step of the process.
I believe in the value of the message that Chicco brings. And the ultimate irony is that Chicco is helping me to live my dream... albeit several decades late!"
