John Grist was born in 1924 and served as a pilot in the RAF during the Second World War. He joined the BBC after the war and rose to become a senior executive and head of BBC Current Affairs. In the later part of his career he left the BBC for other senior television related posts. John final post before retirement was to be responsible for implementing television broadcasting from the Palace of Westminster, thus securing his own place in television history.
