Biography:
Louise Wates was born to an English mother and an Anglo-Indian father. She was raised in Surrey but did a lot of growing up on the move. She ranks India as one of her favourite places in the world, just ahead of a rather good bar in downtown New York and the massage chair displays in Tokyo's Electric City. She studied modern Indian politics as part of a MSc in social and political theory, claims to make very good butter paneer, and has perfected a recipe to make burfi, an Indian sweet, in the microwave in ten minutes. She has worked as a journalist and editor but now spends her time drinking tea and travelling. In her spare time she lectures and tutors at a college of further education.
