Dr. Richard A. Collins (39) is a scientist by profession. He holds Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in Biochemistry and formerly worked in a private biotechnology company developing new diagnostic tests for dangerous viruses such as avian influenza H5N1, foot-and-mouth disease, and the SARS coronavirus.
He uses his extensive knowledge of viruses, including their growth and manipulation, as background information for his novels.
He is well known to the Hong Kong and international media for his knowledgeable contributions during repeated outbreaks of avian influenza H5N1 in Hong Kong and the recent SARS epidemic.
He has published many articles describing his research into deadly viruses in prestigious scientific journals.
Dr. Collins is a member of several professional societies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of Biology and the Institute of Biomedical Science.
Dr. Collins has travelled extensively in Southeast Asia and lives in Hong Kong with his wife and two children.
