Born to conflict - free to defend. Recording Journeys of a forgotten white African tribe. Written and compiled by ROBERT WINSTON BURNETT. Speaking with you!
Africa as a whole, remains an important continent - not only or more obviously for its majority population, but also to many of white skins. Its traditions, customs and inner beliefs, travel with us to this very day, across the wider oceans. Spirits of the ancestors and when used for good reasons, guide children of a once beloved homeland or those now to be found as virtual exiles in far off lands. However, those born and raised Africans, continue struggles and meanings attached to securing rights for a total population.
Factors which can never simply be supplanted by mere human manufactured, manipulated laws, amendments and draconian rule. There remains powerful Ancestors and of all Ethnic groups, determined to deliver equalities for the good for a lands inner well being. Recording on-going journeys of attrition's while endeavouring to secure genuine freedoms for those born and raised Africans of all races. Those belonging to the then colonial lands known as Southern Rhodesia or now Zimbabwe.
Southern Rhodesia was named after its British founder or Cecil John Rhodes, when claiming entities once termed as God's own Land. A homeland which would deliver much division and heartache, for the generations to follow. White African's, born into most uncertain futures, then plagued and beset by much intrigue, deceptions and hypocrisy. Leading ultimately to a most vicious war of attrition breaking out and claiming many innocent souls - on all sides. Born a white African, but to inherit most uncertain futures, both in personal and political terms or virtually born
SEEDS OF STRIFE
Growing up a virtual African, but living in and amongst those of European back grounds, the forefathers having overwhelmed the more vulnerable. Expanding wider Empires, but ultimately to shed its gloss. Inheriting most uncertain life's and futures being conducted from afar, but also blessed by wonderful lifestyle's set in wide open spaces. Further energised by constant rays of sunshine, gleaming brightly down from blue skies, above.
An all out struggle would unfold, influenced in the background by the Russians and Chinese, while we tried clinging onto basic principles. Operatives designed to deliver controlled, gradual and calculated transfers of the political power base to a majority population. A wider world remained determined that known as or Independence and calculated on one man one vote regulations - would transpire, sooner rather that later. The land of Southern Rhodesia, had as recorded, reached satisfactory settlements along lines of evolved constitutions formulated in the years 1961 and 1964.
A land would be left virtually cornered or little option, but declare meanings attached to Unilateral Declaration of Independence in the year 1965. We would and from that moment on, feel full effects attached to ensuing wider trade sanctions, along with condemnation of a wider world. At times, measures employed can be described as rather petty, even vindictive. The Rhodesian leader or Ian Douglas Smith, found himself capitulated onto the international stage, but not as a saviour in some eyes - but termed and treated
We were to be considered none entities or as never having existed.
Generations of history and progress, systematically wiped from map's over night or effectively banned at birth by a wider world at large. We would sustain and for fifteen progressive years, annual growths rates across all manufacturing sectors, all the while pitted against calculated odd's. The prosperous land of Rhodesia, would be forced eventually into capitulation, by accepting conditions laid down at Lancaster House London. Forced into accepting principles of transferring to immediate majority rule and all this would entail. Important sectors within the then land of Rhodesia, realising all too well immediate transfers - could spell disasters.
A people left with little choice, but accept conditions all the, while hoping new orders worked out. Vital elements born to the land or expertise situated within Commerce and Industry, would leave the Country, bound for safer shores. Further depleting already stretched and vital expertise, so urgently required to secure infrastructures. Following Uhuru or black rule, calls initially rang out for white's to remain. However, we knew all too well words were delivered out of convenience and subtly mixed with much rhetoric. Deep down, knowing certain elements, required white expertise be depleted to the very core.
Subsequent amendments to constitutions in Harare, ensured those seeking futures for the generations to follow. Had to avoid pot holes by securing new lives further afield. A certain authority remained determined we would effectively remain -
Banned at Birth
A new entity known as Zimbabwe, was born in the year of 1980. Its new leaders would inherit a shining and most productive jewel of the Crown. Zanu (Patriotic Front) would be blessed with one of Africa's most productive, sound and stable infrastructures. All would change, most unfortunately or be transformed into a virtual third world state, while becoming dysfunctional.
A majority would feel full effects of a virtual dictatorship delivering draconian and most authoritarian measures and heavily down on them. Anti white rhetoric's reached fever pitch, as a once most prosperous land, was transformed into poverty and in the main afflicting innocent bystanders. Efforts of addressing most obvious and outstanding issues of equalities, have continued, but now from foreign shores or where truths are simply hidden and not then discussed.
The author joined others by addressing vital issues through communicating genuine concerns to those who would not only open ear's, but also listen.
Attached to these accounts, are direct replies received, while those of us genuinely caring for our homelands, struggle to have dignity's restored, finally.
We have never been against advancement for a majority, but at sustainable rates, they themselves can cope with, but in partnerships with their more natural Allies. Zimbabwe or a once most viable entity, requires formulation of genuine working partnerships structured along pluralism lines, by delivering for good.
Instead of using Helicopters to deliver weapons of war, as is the case in certain parts of the world. More recent events in Mozambique, should have demonstrated most graphically that certain powerful forces, do not find time to discriminate. Vuka or wake up to prejudices proving most destructive and poisoning souls. There need not be any reason to remain divided, while greater forces wait to challenge all.
