\"Interested in World War II?
If yes then read on.
‘The Armageddon Pact’ is based on a number of factual events – from the Los Alamos bomb project to the Stauffenberg attempt to kill Hitler. The plot concerns a German/Russian raiding party landing in America – intent on kidnapping Robert Oppenheimer. This links with the Stauffenberg attempt and also a Russian plan to assassinate Stalin. Sounds far fetched? Perhaps, but Bobby says he can demonstrate the feasibility of his story.
The raiding party comprises of elite German paratroopers and two Russian heavies. Throw in a female Soviet spy and a yank traitor and the group is complete. This fast paced novel starts with three chapters of Eastern Front action as the characters are introduced. The novel then moves around war torn Europe until reaching America. Once here the groups’ difficulties emerge as the various factions splinter under pressure. Ultimately the story then comes down to a clash of wills between individuals.
In many ways Bobby Smith has written an ‘old fashioned’ novel as he places the emphasis very much on characterisation and story telling. This, he feels, lends a more realistic edge to his ‘actors’ as they demonstrate both the weakness and the strength of the human mind.
