The Flying Star

Synopsis

Voted the most unfashionable seaside resort in England, Rushmoor Bay seemed destined for a massive leisure redevelopment by a local tycoon, that would see the miniature railway and its pride and joy, The Flying Star locomotive, destined for the scrapheap.

The dedicated old men that ran the railway met in the engine shed not to accept defeat or to commiserate with one another. They talked instead about the need to recruit younger volunteers to run the railway and ensure its long-term survival. Without the tycoon the leisure scheme would never go ahead. The vote was unanimous that the man must be murdered.

A dead body is found washed up on the shore and the police are soon to question the old men, together with their younger volunteers. Not only are they subsequently exonerated, but they are able to restore the line to its former pride and glory. Two younger volunteers not only have the satisfaction of working on a thriving railway but also succeed in finding love along the way.

This is not only an affectionate comedy, but it also deals with serious issues about love, friendship, loss and the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a fast changing world.
