It was a desperate situation. An adventurous holiday in the great outdoors had turned into a nightmare. Their vehicle was wrecked and her husband ill with fever. The only sign of civilisation had been a huddle of derelict farm buildings about a mile back along the track. As they passed, Emily assumed they were deserted, but she thought she glimpsed a figure appearing for a moment in the window.
