What makes this work so interesting is it's a model of how this type of book should be constructed. Clearly laid out and easy to follow. There are no dry tables of venerable ancestors, which are of no interest to anyone other than a committed family history researcher. Rather, the emphasis is on 'telling it as it is' and any reader, whether of the Bicheno clan, or not, will recognise the vagaries of life in Britain most inhabitants have experienced since 1947. What lifts this from the norm is the humour. On more than one occasion I found myself laughing aloud which is more than many professional comedy writers can provoke from this jaded reviewer.
Chris Bicheno wrote this work for his family, friends and future Bicheno's. I'm sure they'll find it as entertaining as I, but would suggest if you are thinking of writing a family history of this kind, buy a copy. You'll enjoy a thoroughly good read and learn exactly how to do it.
