Thoroughly researched, this novel exploits many questions that have long plagued the conventional Christian story; such as: Was Paul gay? Did Jesus have a son? Why did three wise men, seeing a star shining over Bethlehem, travel to Jerusalem? and many others. Even the genealogy of Jesus is in question.
Gamaliel, strangely, is mentioned only twice in the Acts of the Apostles, and yet was obviously a well-known and important person of that time. His very long life is the backcloth for a fascinating tapestry, woven from legends, logic, popular beliefs, history and conjecture. There is reference to cannibalism (eating children), skinning alive, human sacrifice, war, torture and romance. Although the story will appeal to the impious and appal the sanctimonious, it is not offensive.
