A family at war with itself seems to sum up this beautifully explained story.

Clever description of family has allowed this to be told as it happened and without mercy allows us to see the great tragedies, betrayals, triumphs and disasters. We go through World War One and learn of bravery, gallantry, banding together as women begin to prove themselves under enemy attack.

A truly nostalgic wander down a very old memory lane as turmoil, love, bitterness and hatred seem to evolve in this painstakingly researched work. Derek Rossitter has excelled as he shows how ‘Beatrice’ was so badly treated and the son ‘Simon’ was greatly favoured, making us turn the pages with eagerness to see exactly what does happen.

It explains how hard life was in the ‘olden days’, yet in spite of such hardships, which seemed to be prominent even with the rich, there was a great bonding of family. Sadness brings tears of sheer emotion and shudders of joy erupt into goose pimples as we follow these families through triumph and disaster.

A beautiful story, filled with intricacies, suspense and great detail.
