This is the first poem I ever wrote and reflects my feelings about Barbara’s eyes that captivate me. I have been fortunate to have had it selected for publication in a couple of Poetry books and magazines. It remains very special to both of us and takes pride of place on Page 1.
CORNFLOWER
Cornflower, China and Wedgwood
are beautiful shades of blue.
Yet they cannot compare
with the sparkling eyes
that God has gifted to you.

Generally speaking, I feel that outsiders have little sympathy or understanding of depression. They seem to either feel that the sufferer should pull themselves together, or count their blessings, as so many are much worse off – or both. Consequntly, I feel many depressives feel the need to wear a mask of normality, or risk losing friends. This may serve to exacerbate the condition.
