Synopsis

Raddai Raikhlin, Ph.D., was born in Moscow in 1929. He went to work at the age of 13, combining his schooling with working for a living. In 1953 he graduated from the Naval Academy and worked as an electronics engineer. He then continued his studies at the Moscow University and Moscow Power Engineering Institute, earning his doctoral degree in 1964. In addition to scientific articles, he wrote popular-science articles in major journals. On the basis of his publications he was awarded, among others, process patents for methods of receiving and transmitting gravitational waves.

In 1973 Dr. Raikhlin emigrated to Israel, where he worked at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology). After leaving the Technion he became interested in sociology. In 1991 Dr. Raikhlin published \"The Theory of Automata\" (in Russian), an examination of a personality type the author calls an “Automaton,” its features and behavior, as well as the characteristics of a society that may be formed by such personalities. The author's main focus is on the study of social cohesion and discipline; he defines the conditions required for creating cohesion and optimal discipline in society.

His second book, \"Fashion,\" presents the results of these studies in a popular form. The effect of social cohesion on human behavior is illustrated by means of several examples, including such social manifestations as fashion styles, dances, religion ceremonies, art and literature, etc.

In 2003 Dr. Raikhlin published Civil War, Terrorism and Gangs: A System of Sociology and Social Dynamics, in which he argued that society is an open thermodynamic system and explained such phenomena as social division, terrorism, etc.

Raddai Raikhlin is a member of the Europaische Akademie der Naturwissenschaften. He was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Silver Medal in recognition of his research in sociology.
\"How should a leader rule his country? What are the criteria he should use? All leaders talk of the public good, but none of them know wherein that good lies or how to measure it. In this unique guidebook intended for political leaders, the author for the first time attempts to provide them with clear and comprehensible criteria and methods to be used...\"
