Schizophrenic or Psychic? (My Story)

Chapter 1

“Wendy! Your phone’s ringing!” I dropped my straighteners and ran towards the living room, colliding with my mum in the hallway as she came running towards me with my mobile, still playing its tune. After screaming and laughing I tried to contain myself and get my breath back after such a commotion. I managed to answer my phone just seconds before it clicked onto my answer phone. The first few seconds of the phone call were a bit of a daze as I was aware of my breast throbbing after my mum had smashed into it with my mobile. It was a new client, who wanted a clairvoyant reading. She said she had a lot of things that she needed to sort out and needed a bit of guidance with and I had been recommended to her. I always love to hear that someone has recommended me. As a struggling complementary therapist, word of mouth is the best source of advertising but unfortunately takes a long time to get going.

The sweat was beading on my face as I hurried to the small room that we rent. Our new place is a small but light room up a couple of flights of stairs and next door to an architect, Alistair Monty and next to a wonderful friend Paula Andrews. If it wasn’t for her help and suggestion of the room we would no longer exist as a company. Alistair is a small, slim, kind man, with grey hair and large clear blue eyes. He is a fairly young looking man perhaps in his early forties. His tone is calming and very pleasant. It was a relief to find a “landlord” that was reasonable and considerate to our circumstances. He agreed to give us a cheaper rent and with no contract so that we could leave whenever we wanted. The room has three very large windows, almost the size of a full wall, the other walls are painted magnolia. The bright blue carpet isn’t exactly tranquil but it’s clean. Once we had put our mark on the room it looked much more like a therapy room than an office. We have our chocolate brown sofa from our previous shop and our massage table, which could stand up permanently now, our shelving unit with all our stock, crystals, books, smudge sticks, agate rocks and coloured bottles, stood in the corner of the room. We have plastic garlands of green ivy and flowers hanging down the corners of the walls and along the windows and with many meters of white voile with light blue circles, on the window to give us some kind of privacy from the outside world. Even though we’re a couple floors up, there are still windows from restaurants and flats that look into our room.

It was hot and muggy and rushing along the street and up two flights of stairs was bound to break a heavy sweat. The room was cold but didn’t seem it to me as I quickly took out my smudge stick to cleanse the room. Before any healing treatments and readings I always smudge the room. This involves lighting a smudge stick, ( a seven inch stick with bound sage and lavender, copal, cedar or sweet grass). The stick then smoulders and bellows smoke, a bit like ten incense sticks put together. This is a Native American way of cleansing and creating a sacred space. I lit my smudge stick and walked around the room, anti clockwise saying my sacred affirmation to cleanse the room and repeated walking around the room three times. I rushed to the toilet to put out the smudge stick, trying not to set alight any of Alistair’s architectural plans that were just lying around, on the way. Knock, knock. “Phew.” At least I managed to get the room smudged before my new client arrived. Rosie stood on the other side of the large glass door, waiting for me to let her in. Rosie was small and tanned with dyed blonde hair. She smiled gently and nervously, as they all do when they come to me for the first time for a clairvoyant reading. I welcomed her into my room and gave her my oracle cards to get her ‘special message’ for the day. I always do this before a reading and a healing. They are my beautiful handmade oracle cards that I spent a lot of time and effort making and I love using them. This is nothing to do with the actual reading but it allows the client to relax a bit and takes their mind off the reading. It gives them a personal message that I maybe wouldn’t give them.

Rosie spoke quite coarsely, like she was a heavy smoker and looked like she’d had a rough life. I would have guessed that she was maybe in her forties, perhaps early forties. We sat opposite each other and I asked to hold her hands. I like the clients to put their hands on top of mine so that I can create a good connection with them. Rosie was struggling with a man that she was with. The relationship was very turbulent and had just finished the day before. Although I did see a change in the relationship, it would need a lot of hard work and effort to get it that way. However, there seemed to be something else that was bothering her. “I’ve never had a reading done like this before. I’ve always had a tarot reading.” Rosie said, nervously. “Yeah, a lot of people use the tarot cards as a tool to ‘see’ things and to give them a bit of guidance, but I just use touch to make a connection. Everyone works differently.” I explained. Rosie looked much more relaxed after the discussion about her man. I always break my readings down, relationships, work, a health check and a “free for all”. Most people usually come for a reading because of relationship or work issues, so it’s easier to get these areas dealt with first. The “free for all” is where anything that I’ve missed out in the first three parts can come in. This is when any special messages or connections to those who have passed over occur. Moving on to her work section, I found that she didn’t work because she was on medication and had a bad back. I did not see her ever working but said that she was studying and would take it further. At the time, Rosie was doing a course in reading and writing. As she had not spent a lot of time at school when she was younger her literacy skills severely suffered and she had to re-learn these skills as an adult. Looking deeper into her life I was aware of her past. I never look into the past in my readings. People already know their past and don’t need me to remind them. I start from the present and look forward but somehow I was very much involved in Rosie’s past. “You’ve had an awful life, haven’t you?” Rosie broke down but half nervously laughed. “Yes.” “There is a lot of your past that is holding you back and preventing you from living the life you should have. It is this that has caused you to go on medication and caused these severe emotional weaknesses.” With every word, Rosie knew she had to face her past. I didn’t want to say it but I felt I had to. “I’m sorry Rosie, but in order for you to get over this hurdle and deal with it, you’re going to have to face the fact that you were abused and try to beat the emotions associated with it rather than it beating you.” I explained this carefully, gently and with as much empathy as possible. Dealing with abuse can be a very difficult and tense subject but sometimes it has to be addressed. Rosie nodded as she knew that it had all come to a point and it now needed to be dealt with. Rosie explained that because of this abuse, she struggled at school and couldn’t wait to leave and then got into the wrong crowd of people. It was then that her mental state began to suffer. Still not knowing what she was taking the medication for, I moved on and tried to look deep within Rosie to find what her skills were and what she is capable of. When I looked deeper, I found the most amazing gift within her. She is and always has been extremely psychic. She ‘feels’, ‘sees’, ‘hears’ and of course suffers. Having the ‘gift’ of clairvoyance and being psychic is a very difficult thing to cope with. People say to me “What a wonderful gift you have, you are so lucky, I wish I could see like that.” I always reply, “If you could see, you would know that it wasn’t a gift at all.” What people forget is that it’s not only the good things that you see, but the bad things too. Rosie had the ‘gift’ to see the evil in people. When she walked past people in the street, she said that their faces would change and she would see the dark side of them. She would see faces turning into devil like faces. For someone who doesn’t know they have a ‘gift’, this can seem terrifying. I explained all about being psychic and how we ‘see’ more than what others ‘see’. That people seem different, smells are different, places are different and that we ourselves are different. I offered to teach her how to do clairvoyant readings and healings to help her develop the skills that she has but suggested that she get a healing first to cleanse her and to help her break free from her past. “That sounds brilliant. Thank you so much. I’ve learnt so much about myself.” Rosie said, beaming with life. “You have a wonderful gift and you need to focus on using it to help people and learn how to control it instead of it controlling you. I’m not charging you for teaching you. I’m only showing you how to use your own skills in the right way. You are strong and you will succeed. I‘ll be here with you every step of the way. Any problems then just phone me and let me know. Start with you first. Once you have yourself back in order and stable and strong, then begin helping others.” I finished the reading and watched a ‘new’ Rosie leave the room.

When I got home that night I began thinking about Rosie and her life and wondered what the medication she was taking was for. It never seemed to come up again as I began to focus on her positive points rather than her negative ones. Rosie phoned later that night to make an appointment for a healing. She said that she finally began to understand her life and how much of it was misunderstood. I wasn’t entirely sure what she meant by that, but I presumed it meant that the people in her life had misunderstood her behaviour and didn’t respect her enough. “Thank you so much Wendy, you’ve really opened my eyes. I’m looking forward to my healing. Thanks again. Goodnight.”
