I thought this was really funny. It's very weird; crazy sense of humour, but very funny in parts. Very British sort of humour, I think. Not really science-fiction, though it is set in the future - more like Medievel times (or possibly Victorian times) but with space-ships and pirates. Don't know why but reminded me of the Time Bandits movie.

This book is bonkers. But brilliant. Absolutely nuts. I'd read the author's comments on the publisher's website (about it being a good read for 'Blackadder' and 'Hitchiiker's Guide' fans) and that sounds about right. It's like a gothic Star Wars!
If you can imagine a devious, 'Richard The Third' character zipping around the cosmos and getting into scrapes then you'll get a good idea of what this is about.
A futuristic dystopia where everyone goes back to the Dark Ages? Nice concept.
Its very 'Monty Python' too - seemed to be some references to 'Holy Grail' there. There's some 'adult references' in there also - lots of references to private parts, etc - but all done in a comedic way and not really offensive.
There's also a massive 'history of the empire' section at the back - a bit like all the notes that Tolkien put at the end of his books; thousands of years of history, etc etc. - which I guess is in relation to the other books in the series. Looking forward to reading the next book in the saga.
