Football is our national game. Itâs fun, itâs played all over the country and lots of people LOVE FOOTBALL! But, even if you LOVE FOOTBALL! How much do you know about the game? This book looks at all the things that make up a football club, showing you who looks after injured players, who keeps the teamâs kit clean and what it takes to make everything happen as it should on the day of a match. Along the way youâll meet some dedicated people and learn a few new words. Once you have read this book, we hope you will LOVE FOOTBALL! even more.
This book is an insight into the life of Dartford Football Club (known locally as ‘The Darts’). It came about after students and staff at North West Kent College approached the club to ask whether it could produce a book about how this small club in Kent was gaining such a big reputation in the football world. The result is a book suitable for use in local schools and hopefully of interest to the growing army of Dartford fans.
Thanks are due to many people who put in efforts to make this book possible. Nicola Collett, General Manager of Dartford FC contacted many of those involved with her club and made sure they were available for interview. The names appearing at the end of each chapter are the names of individual students who wrote and researched the items. All of the students were part of the BND Media (Print) year one at NW Kent College. Many of them had little interest in football ahead of the project, and little knowledge of their local team, but once they had visited the club and seen them fight their way back from 0-2 down to beat Tooting and Mitcham 3-2 on a cold November evening, they were all motivated to get behind the Darts and produce this book.
The Darts have a close relationship with their bigger neighbours, Millwall FC, and staff from Millwall have provided support for the publishing and marketing of the book, ensuring copies were made available locally.
Without the efforts of those above this book would not exist, so thanks to everyone concerned.
Go Darts!
