China 2008

Synopsis

China, A democratic world?
In the way of the new capitalism, every Chinese needs to have sufficient money in order to vote freely. Many Chinese are dreaming of democratic sovereignty: Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and many other nations.
China
The Chinese still call themselves communists, but now they're also capitalists and communists. The government has money and power and controls China using the Communist Party. The Communist Party is the only party. Big brother government.
The Groups
The corporations are both public and private. The have money, they have power. Public and private corporations are subsidized by central government. The corporations need market solutions. PetroChina Co. almost tripled on its first day of trading in Shanghai, 5 November 2007, becoming the world's first company to be valued at $1 trillion, larger than the entire Russian stock market. “China is all but certain to experience its fourth consecutive year of double-digit growth in 2007 and is expected to soon overtake Germany as the world's number three economy” (Wen, November 2007).
The People
The Chinese people themselves have no money and no power. They don't have freedom of speech of freedom of the press. The authorities can arrest and imprison people who threaten stability, as the party defines. Anybody that dares to protest is treated brutally. There are no civil liberties, no labor  unions, no centers of political power outside the Communist Party. The Chinese people are gradually becoming richer, but need much more individual wealth, if they are ever to have free elections.
Hong Kong – Macau
“One country, two systems” Deng said that Hong Kong and Macau would maintain capitalism for 50 years. Hong Kong is the back door to China, and China is embracing Hong Kong's capitalism. China's communism is being swallowed by Hong Kong's market. The Chinese market is difficult to penetratem but those who base themselves in Hong Kong may be able to control their own destinies.
Macau
“One country, two systems”
Taiwan
The government have money and power and free economic growth. Taiwan has a democratic government.
Groups
The private corporations have money , and they also have power. These corporations use market solutions.
People
Only the 23 million people of Taiwan have the right to make decisions on Taiwan's future and destiny/ The idea of “One China” is a rusty antique. Taiwan is not China, it has become something much better, an outpost of liberty.
