Synopsis

Laura looks back on her childhood and accepts that her father needed to remarry after her mother's death. Music is part of her and she studies after her school years to become an accomplished pianist.

Her life is complete when she meets and falls in love with Richard. Although her love is reciprocated, family forces influence their future and Richard leaves for the other side of the world just before the outbreak of World War II. When Laura learns he is promised to another from childhood, she returns Richard's ring and vows she loves him too much to damage his future.

To ensure success of her plan she estranges herself from her beloved family and goes into hiding. When another young man shows interest in her she agrees to marry him in the hope it will help her forget Richard. Fate and the war play a tragic hand, leaving Laura almost unable to endure her circumstances. She is convinced that nothing will save her from total despair and seeks solace in her music. Yet it will need more than concert engagements and the support of her family to save her from utter desolation.
