| In September we published 'Operation
Oboe', Miller Caldwell’s brilliant first novel, a family story of both
World Wars. Miller, an extraordinary Scotsman, seems to have taken on a
new lease of life, travelling literally up hill and down dale with his trusty
stack of books and distributing them to varied locations, including Co-
op shops and every Police Station in Dumfries. Operation Oboe has certainly
begun it’s climb to fame 'con brio.' We especially like the bumper (fender)
sticker, Miller! If there is anyone in Dumfries who hasn't now heard of
Authors Online they must have been hibernating. 'Jacksons Number Ones', the third Jackson Family book by Craig Halstead and Chris Cadman is attracting the attention of Sony Music and is being used as promotional material alongside the recently released 'Number Ones' by Michael Jackson. Evelyn Stewart is also currently in the limelight, signing copies of her book in the Walmart Super Centre, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Highway 62,to help benefit the Ronald McDonald House located there. 'Totally Discombobulated'- her gritty autobiography is having its screenplay written, and audio tapes being made in the near future. It was with great sadness that we were recently told of the death of Mary Ordish the mother of Bob Ordish, author of 'Ghost Train.' Mary was the instigator of the posthumous publication of her son’s book. 'Innocent in Africa' writer Annette Willoughby is, even as I write, departing on another visit to her friends at St. John’s Church, Ha Simone in Lesotho .They have built her a little house to stay in and she goes laden with gifts and good wishes to the community she got to know during her two year stay there. She has recently moved up country to Shefford, Bedfordshire, England and has almost completed the fine tuning of book number two. We have also heard some good news about 'The Trade Commissioner' written by G.Sson Miller. The latest “Nordic Reach” magazine has done a very favourable review of his book, which tells of the adventures of Eric Stark, a former Trade Commissioner in Canada. AND FINALLY Our esteemed Editor has informed me that he is now digitally certified! Sharp intake of breath! That means the company has become a major league player in the technical application of Print on Demand publishing, giving huge advantages and influence with its printers, Lightning Source. Well, that’s alright then. He is not doing too badly, is he, with the now FIVE year old company, which has almost 350,000 visitors to the website every year. The published P.O.D. book list has now reached 100 — another interesting milestone. He struggles away daily to keep up with these demands (with his team, I hasten to add) and only takes his eye off the ball during World Cup rugby matches and whilst playing part of the Chorus in 'Cinderella' (one of his little foibles). Anyhow, Happy 5th Birthday Authors On Line. –the first hundred books are the worst! Only joking. And many thanks to our authors who have taken us thus far. |
