When Barry George was first convicted for the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando in 1999 there was much disquiet in the press and amongst many members of the public at the time. Doubt about the safety of his conviction has existed ever since.
Ironically it has taken until now for the first book to appear expressing these doubts. Much to our surprise, when S C Lomax dropped his manuscript onto our editor's desk, we discovered that as Barry George begins his fourth year in prison for a crime which many people doubt he could have committed, no one had previously put pen to paper to say so.
Our editor has a contact within the prison service, who interviewed George when he was first arrested. Seeds of doubt were sown into his mind at the time and he has kept an eye on this potential miscarriage of justice ever since. When this manuscript came to us, we therefore had no doubt it was worth pursuing. Several major newspapers have interviewed S.C. Lomax, and we publish below the first article to appear - a double page spread in the Daily Express on Saturday 26th June.
