Linda West, who published the autobiographies of both her late father, Harry Berry and his best Friend, Derek (Nobby) Clarke, sent us this article from the Manchester Evening News for Monday 15th August - VJ Day, the 60th anniversary of the end of the war in the Pacific and thus the end of the Second World War. The two books are a perfect description, and this article a timely reminder of the particular suffering that POWs suffered at the hands of the Japanese. It is particularly poignant for me as my own father spent 3½ years in Changi gaol, as well as working on the infamous Burma railway that killed one man for every sleeper laid!
