Wendy Lake, our Submissions Editor for the past 3 years has decided on a career
change. Sadly she left us at the end of December. Through good times and bad she has been a loyal servant to the company, always avaiable with helpful advice through periods of illness and personal tragedy, we therefore pay her tribute.
Wendy joined us in 2002 and thanks to her dedication and support was very much
instrumental in building the company over the last 3 years. Her sympathetic
ear and easy manner helped many an author over the initial and often daunting
first hurdles of self-publishing. Many authors would now count her as a good
friend.
Wendy is herself a prolific writer and initially found us whilst searching for
a home for her book 'You've Been Wonderful to your Father'. Sent to us as hard
copy we had to scan it in order to publish. Her second book arrived sometime
later in the same format. When a few months later she submitted her third book
in the same manner we happened to ask why she hadn't bought a computer. 'But
I have owned one for some time and have written all my books on it.' Why then
we asked have you not sent it on a diskette. A surprised voice exclaimed 'I
didn't know you could!' Our Editor, Richard Fitt decided a visit to Wendy's
home might be in order, technical manual in hand. And so began a long lasting
relationship!
As Authors Online moved into Print On Demand, the UK's first company to do so,
and interest grew, Wendy in one moment of madness when there was nobody available
to man the phones for a day, volunteered to do so. And the rest, as they say
is history.
Four years later and now technically adept she has decided that she no longer
wishes to be in the front line of a self-publishing business that has moved
on light-years from those early times.
It only remains for us to thank her from the bottom of our hearts for all she
has done to make Authors OnLine the success it is today and to wish her well
in the future. I have no doubt we will keep in touch.
Submissions will now be handled by our Editor, Richard Fitt assisted by Gaynor Johnson.
