CRISTIANO RONALDO'S PORTUGUESE BOOK LAUNCH 7th JULY 2007

Our Editor Richard Fitt and his wife Marjorie were the honoured week-end guests of publishers Ideias & Rumos of Lisbon for the the launch of the Portuguese version of Cristiano Ronaldo's 'Memontos' - our company having been commissioned to edit the English version. The book is to be released by Pan Macmillan in the Autumn.

The launch was at the Dom Pedro Hotel in Central Lisbon and was attended by The Portuguese Minister of Sport and the coach of the Portuguese National team, Luiz Felipe Scolari as well as other dignitaries. Ronaldo was also in town for the ceremony for the announcement of the Seven New Wonders of the World, which had been voted on by over 100 million people worldwide. It was held at the world famous Benfica stadium. Ronaldo, being closely associated with the number '7', was one of the celebrities who announced one of the winners. It was also a double celebration as his book was launched at 7 pm on the 7th day of the 7th Month in 2007.

Cristiano is as you would expect, a mega star in his home country, a fact that was brought home to us when he received by far the biggest cheer at the 7 wonders ceremony. If there had been a roof it would have definitely have come off! On the following day, with one exception, the minimum coverage in all the Sunday papers, was a double page spread. In two papers it was a newsworthy triple page spread.

We would like to express our gratitude to Pedro and his lovely wife (and chauffeur!!), Marta for their incredible hospitality, we ate and drank far too well for our own good. We look forward to reciprocating when they come over for the launch of the English language version in the autumn. Authors OnLine looks forward to a long and happy association with Ideias & Rumos, we certainly got off to a great start.
